Sheffield Tools for Africa does accept garden tools but it should be appreciated that subsistence farming in Africa is a long way from gardening in the U.K. In Africa the most commonly used tool is a heavy mattock or hoe to prepare the ground for planting. Some standard gardening tools are useful but most are not. Lawns in rural Africa are rather an alien concept! We are, therefore, reluctant to accept edging shears, edging tools and sprung wire rakes. Please recycle them elsewhere.
However, both Sheffield Tools for Africa and TWAM try to find good homes for your unwanted garden tools.
We currently provide small hand tools to Friends of the Botanical Gardens, Sheffield, (FOBS) their volunteers use them in the gardens and for propagating plants. If you are interested in the work of FOBS please click on the link below.

We also support self-help community-based projects looking for garden tools to improve their environment or grow vegetables. A good example is a scheme for ASSIST Sheffield, supporting some of the most marginalised people living in Sheffield. It is run by one of our volunteers Victor Mujakachi.
